Volunteers needed for disaster drill!
The Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH), the Village of Hoffman Estates and over 30 other local municipalities will be participating in a pharmaceutical distribution exercise on Tuesday, May 13.
We are seeking volunteers to walk through clinic lines and pretend to be exposed patients. Join us anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Sears Centre Arena, 5333 Prairie Stone Parkway in Hoffman Estates.

Build a birdhouse
Children ages six to 14 are invited to "Build a Birdhouse" on Saturday, May 17, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Public Works Center, 2305 Pembroke Ave. This free event is sponsored by the Environmental Commission. A medium Phillips-head screwdriver will be required. Participation is limited to the first 32 children registered. Advance reservations are required, and will be limited to children who are Hoffman Estates residents through May 12. After May 12, if space permits, reservations will be open to children from surrounding communities. To register, call

Memorial Day event
This year's Memorial Day event, the "Cost of Freedom Tribute," will feature a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.
The traveling wall will be on display from Friday, May 23, through Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, at Alexian Field in Schaumburg.
Singer Wayne Messmer and Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth are slated to appear. Organizers expect around 20,000 visitors.

Street project begins
May 1
The annual Village street project begins the first week of May. Hoffman Estates will be resurfacing 17 streets and reconstructing two streets this year.

Final draft of Comprehensive Plan approved
The final draft of the Comprehensive Plan for the Village of Hoffman Estates has been approved, and is available online here.
A Comprehensive Plan establishes long-range development policies and guidelines for the community. In short, the Comprehensive Plan serves as a roadmap for the future development of the Village. It includes the physical, economic, environmental, aesthetic and other elements that affect the community as a whole.
