On Aug. 29, 2011, Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) appeared at a special Public Works and Utilities (PWU) Standing Committee meeting to discuss the cause and remedies regarding numerous and lengthy power outages throughout the Village due to storms in June and July 2011. At that meeting, ComEd agreed to investigate power issues and report back to the PWU Committee on a regular basis. ComEd has appeared at the Oct. 24, Dec. 12, Jan. 23, and Feb. 27 PWU meetings with information on proposed improvements. ComEd will continue to provide 30 day progress reports. Two-way text alert outage messaging
ComEd has instituted a two-way text messaging capability that allows customers to text their outage to ComEd. ComEd will then text restoration information back to customers. The expanded outage alert text message program will provide added convenience for customers and help improve their experience. The new program enhancements:
- Allow customers to text the company to report an outage
- Offer real-time information on outages
- Allow customers to text ComEd to opt into the program
