To Hoffman Estates, "Green in Action" means residents and businesses utilizing programs and performing activities that improve our living, working and community environments. Many simple tasks and inexpensive changes can lead to substantial savings in energy, materials and, very often, savings in a bank account. Eco-opportunities can be found just about anywhere!
Hoffman Estates Sustainability Commission at Work
As a part of the Village's "Growing to Greenness" strategy, the Mayor and the Village Board of Trustees have appointed resident volunteers to the Sustainability Commission. This Commission is directly involved in making the Village an environmentally sound and sustainable place to live.
The Village's fifteen volunteer Commission members are leaders in Hoffman Estates' mission to become a "green" community, and they suggest programs, services and activities that Village residents, businesses and the municipality can participate in all year round. The Sustainability Commission helps raise awareness for programs serving community residents and businesses aspiring to "greenness" and make recommendations regarding these issues to the Village Board of Trustees. The Commission concentrates on improving the environmental quality of the Village by encouraging control and prevention of various environmental pollutions. The Commission regularly provides support for and sponsors Village Improvement Day, recycling events, and other Village activities such as the Environmental Fair. The Commission also manages the Green Business Recognition Program.
