Planning Division Primary Responsibilities

The Planning Division works with residents, businesses, property owners, and developers on a daily basis in the administration of Zoning and Subdivision Codes as well as procedures relating to the use of land and structures. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assist residents with zoning issues. To learn more about zoning and your property, please visit our Resident Information page.
  • Assist petitioners through the special use process for businesses requiring special zoning approval. To learn more about zoning in commercial districts, please visit our Commercial Information page.
  • Assist business owners with signage and property improvements. To learn more about these issues, please visit our Commercial Information page.
  • Coordinate the site plan and subdivision review process. To learn more about this process, please visit our Planning and Zoning Commission page. For documents related to the site plan review process, please visit our Documents & Applications page.
  • Support the Planning and Zoning Commission and other Village Committees. To learn more about these Committees, please visit our Planning and Zoning Commission page, or the Boards & Commissions page.
  • Maintain the Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan is a tool that Planning uses to determine the allowed use for all properties within the Village, and may be viewed here.
  • Coordinate long-range and specific area improvement plans. To learn more about current approved projects that are under construction or awaiting construction, please visit our Current Projects page.
  • Administer the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG). Planning also provides outside resource contacts for housing assistance services and other programs. To learn more about CDBG and other programs please visit our Housing and Support Services page.
