The current Hoffman Estates Traffic Section was started in 1985 with its main responsibility being traffic law enforcement. Today the unit consists of 4 full time officers, 1 civilian Traffic service officer and 1 supervisor. All are state certified in traffic crash investigation and are nationally certified child passenger safety technicians. The section has expanded its duties to include traffic crash investigations, DUI enforcement, hit and run investigations, traffic safety information and education, and child passenger safety.
To promote the safe use of child seats, the Traffic section provides free child seat inspections, as well as occasionally providing child seats for free to needy parents. Child seat inspection check points are also conducted in the area.
The Hoffman Estates Police Department provides free child safety seat inspections and installations. If you have a child seat that needs to be installed or a child safety seat already installed that you want checked, please call and set up an appointment. Remember that 90% of child safety seats are improperly installed. Please read our Child Safety Seat Alert . Please call us at 847-781-2820.
Learn about one of the many programs our Police Department is involved with. "Operation Safe Passage" involves many police departments to come together and reduce the number of drivers that are impaired (DUI), making the roads safer.
Since 1993, the Police Department has received many awards for our efforts in traffic safety.
If you have any questions on this or other traffic related topics please email Sgt. Joe Dornbos.
